Call for Prayer and Action

Continuing Needs in Haiti

It has been two full weeks since the earthquake, the strongest to strike Haiti in more than two hundred years, and there are reports that the situation on the ground is still desperate. "Everybody is hungry," said a Samaritan‘s Purse team leader. News reports indicate that there maybe as many as 300,000 children under two years of age who are suffering from malnutrition.

The latest official death toll stands at 150,000 in Port au Prince alone. This number is considered to be a low estimate because of the number of people still missing. The destruction is massive and the human need is overwhelming. Thousands have died and there has been no choice but to bury them in mass graves. Aid workers are dealing with huge logistical challenges to get help to those who need it. The scale of this disaster and Haiti's poor infrastructure are presenting unprecedented challenges. The people are suffering greatly from lack of food, water, shelter and medical attention.

THERE IS GOOD NEWS! It is impossible to chronicle all the good works being carried out by the relief organizations ministering in Haiti. In spite of huge need and great suffering, there is much to praise God for:

Ways You Can Help

Pray

  • For the Haitian people struggling to cope in the aftermath of the earthquake.
  • That Christian relief workers would clearly communicate God's love and concern for the quake survivors. For the church in Haiti to be available and strong during this time of need and uncertainty.
  • For the relief workers‘physical, mental, and emotional welfare as they face many challenges through the days.
  • For Kevin Cody, Joe Gomilar, Adil Jaffer, Denis Johnson, Tom Kost, Ken Meszaros, Tony Porro and Dan O'Reilly serving this week with an MIM team in Haiti.
