A Summary of Our Strategic Plan for 2009-2010
Our Theme: Transformation of the Heart within the Community of Faith
Our Year Verse: "The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith." I Timothy 1:5
Flowing from our overall vision, we desire to see the centrality of the Gospel worked out within the relationships of Community Fellowship, so as to produce Holy Spirit
(refer to assumption #1) empowered, grace-based transformation of heart and character which will flow out in ministry to the wider church and surrounding community.
Basic Assumptions:
- Only the Holy Spirit can change the human heart and transform it into the vital image of Christ.
- Our institutional and organizational concerns for the church must be carried out within the context of the chief concern for change in the hearts of one another.
- Our desire for community life and relationships should never blind us to the reality of need that exists in the wider community.
We will strive to implement this theme using the following markers:
Our leaders will "get it": the central role of the Gospel (present grace of God) to bring about heart change in every life situation.
- Through teaching at every age level
- Through leadership gatherings
- Through modeling
- Through small group leader's training
- Through mentoring
- Through parent's seminars as well as other practical life-application helps made available throughout the week.
Our people will learn to recognize in themselves and others the opportunity God gives in the "heat" of life's circumstances to bring about heart change.
(Refer to assumption #2.)
- We must judge the health of the church on something other than "nickels and noses."
- We must use a relational rather than functional model of selecting volunteers or leaders.
- We must help one another deal with the "thorns" in our lives so we can see and know the points at which God is at work.
Our people will come to understand that the Gospel has implications for the wider relationships of our church; that imitating Christ is connected to telling his story in word and deed and in relationally engaging our neighbor.
(Refer to assumption #3.)
- We must strive to beautify our relationships with one another so that people outside the church would be drawn in.
- All of our church-related activities should be looking for ways to engage our neighbor.
